# How Appealing is Your Website?

Not sure if decision makers are online searching for your senior care and living services? According to Forrester Research, 91% of decision makers are “somewhat likely” or “very likely” to search online after receiving a referral from a health professional. Speaking from experience, I made sure to do an extensive amount of online research when my mom first received her cancer diagnosis. Actually, eight in ten internet users look online for health information, making it the third most popular online activity among all those included in [the Pew Internet research](http://www.pewinternet.org/2013/11/26/part-two-sources-of-health-information/). Therefore, you should always have your website ready for potential visitors.

**Do a quick assessment and determine how your website compares:**

- Information is broken into short, easy-to-read sections.
- There is no jargon or technical terms.
- Scrolling has been minimized.
- There is sufficient white space to ensure an organized look.
- 12-or 14-point type size has been used for copy.
- The typeface is a sans serif typeface.
- There is a text enlarger on each page.
- Colors and imagery do not clash with one another.
- Instructions are clearly numbered for each step.
- You have not used the colors yellow, blue and green in close proximity to each other as they are difficult for aging eyes to distinguish.
- Pictures are insightful of the audience you are addressing and/or serving.
- There is opportunity for the visitor to interact with you easily.

How did your website compare? Are there any other suggestions you think are imperative to note when visiting a website?

Those are just a few things to consider to ensure your web site is visitor ready and user-friendly. If your web site is more than 2 years old--or if your next door neighbor designed it for you--and you are a home health, private duty, nursing home or assisted or independent living provider, it may be worth the extra time and effort to have another set of eyes take a look. Having someone else examine your current website may help provide the expertise and insight you need to ensure you are not missing lead generating opportunities.
