Curly’s Custom Meats, a family-owned and operated business since 1961, is a custom meat processing shop and meat market offering a wide range of products, from steaks and bratwurst to bacon and every cut in between. For its company expansion plan, Curly’s turned to Marketing Essentials to help develop a new website, logo, brand messaging, and promotional strategy as it built a new meat processing facility and entered the retail space with a new meat market and e-commerce sales.

New Modern Website Drives Sales
The original Curly’s website suffered from an outdated design and poor user experience, failing to reflect Curly’s evolving brand and business growth. The aim was to create a new, modern website that not only aligned with their refreshed branding but also promoted sales for the new retail outlet and online sales. Additionally, it was crucial for the website development to progress in phases, allowing the Curly’s team to manage this project concurrently with their ongoing building construction efforts.
Our team devised a comprehensive web strategy, followed by the creation of design mockups for the new site. The development phase involved writing the website copy, designing and constructing each page with custom imagery and implementing SEO best practices to enhance online visibility.
The new website features robust ecommerce capabilities, initially launching with online sales of their beef jerky, with plans to broaden the range of online retail products in the future.
Furthermore, the website now hosts online forms for meat processing orders, a significant upgrade from the previous system that required farmers to submit orders via paper forms or phone calls. This transition to digital forms not only enhances the customer experience but also significantly reduces the manual entry workload and associated labor costs for the Curly’s team.
Refreshed Branding Reflects Vision
In anticipation of the expansion and launch of the new meat market, the Curly’s Meats team sought to refresh their brand with a contemporary logo, color scheme and messaging that would reflect the company’s forward-looking aspirations. The previous branding, including a logo that was challenging to discern on meat packaging, had remained unchanged for years and no longer captured the essence of Curly’s.
Our approach began with an analysis of their industry, target audience and vision for the future. This groundwork laid the foundation for a collaborative brainstorming session with the Curly’s team, aimed at exploring fresh ideas for the logo, color palette and brand narrative. Following these discussions, our team crafted and unveiled a series of brand refresh options, showcasing innovative logos, color schemes and messaging strategies.
The redesigned logo seamlessly marries Curly’s heritage as a traditional butcher with its new presence in the retail space. The transition to a deeper, more contemporary burgundy from the original red hue enhances the brand’s sophistication. Their commitment to quality was brought out in the brand’s new tagline and supporting message:
