According to a study done by Forrester, websites with a good video marketing strategy increase their chances of being ranked on the first page of Google by 53 times.
Why is video marketing 53x more likely to rank higher than text content? Well, there are a number of factors that influence ranking, but one of the major ones is the recent Hummingbird algorithm from Google, which awards “quality content” over keyword optimization.
Additionally, research conducted by ComScore, found that websites with video content tend to hold viewer’s attention for more than two minutes on average than websites that didn’t have any videos on them.
Google’s Recent Changes
With the recent Google updates, they now care less about whether you’ve optimized each page on your site to a focused keyword and more about whether the content on your page answers the question of the potential user.
Matt Cutts, Google’s Head of Web Spam (never thought that would actually be a job title), estimates the Hummingbird update in September of 2013 affected over 90% of search queries. The way people are using the internet is changing and the shift toward helpful video content in search engine results is becoming more and more useful.

Other factors that affect your video’s SEO are link building, syndication, and lots of social sharing. It’s essentially a domino effect, the same as it is for traditional content: The more popular your video content becomes, the more natural links and embeds you’ll start to see across the internet, which helps increase your video’s SEO.
