Want to increase leads (who doesn’t), but aren’t sure where to turn? One of the best ways to attract attention is by publishing fresh video content on YouTube.
People around the world are watching YouTube videos every minute of every day: YouTube feeds over 1 billion hours of video content each day to its users. It’s also the world’s second-most popular search engine next to Google.
Come Up With a Video Marketing Plan
So, what can you do to get a piece of this digital pie? While creating and posting videos may seem simple enough (it can be done on nearly any smartphone nowadays), you must have the proper plan in place to make the most of this opportunity. Here are a few simple steps to follow:
1) Create Great Content
Before uploading a video, ask yourself, “Is this worth watching?” Always make sure your video content is either entertaining, educational or both.
The best way to continue growing your YouTube channel is to encourage your audience to share it with their friends. And they’re only going to share the content if it entertains them or taught them something worthwhile. Quick tip: “How-tos” are the most popular type of video on YouTube, growing over 70% year-over-year.

2) Include Keywords In Your Title, Description and Tags
The second-most important part of a YouTube video, outside of the video itself, is the title, description and tags for the video. Each of these should include keywords and phrases you want to be associated with your company.
- Video titles should be 50-60 words to avoid truncation in search results.
- Descriptions should be a minimum of 2 to 3 sentences but could be longer (the more keywords in the description, the better).
- Create a minimum of 5 tags for each video. Ask yourself, “If I was searching for this video, what words or phrases would I use?” You can’t increase your video views if no one can find you!
3. Build Your Channel Around Your Brand
Once you start creating content, it’s important to brand your YouTube channel. This is easy to do and gives your page a more professional look.
Include your company logo, as well as a header at the top of the page. You can even create an intro trailer that will play as soon as someone stumbles across your channel. Make the user feel that they have found a safe haven full of professionals that know what they are doing, far away from the shaky-cam cat videos that clutter up the internet. Your subscribers will grow as you build that trust and dependability.
4. Analyze Your Data To Improve Your Channel
After a few months of video output, start analyzing data. YouTube can provide information to guide future content.
How long do your viewers stick around? Do they enjoy longer content or do they leave after a minute or two? What day of the week or time of day are your videos most viewed? What words or phrases are they searching for when they find you? All of this should be considered as you move forward.
5. Have Fun
YouTube hosts more than 30 million channels. If you want to stand out from the competition, you need to be more than a talking head reading facts to the audience.
Have fun with what you create and be authentic! Whether you’re a startup or global business, nothing helps your audience (aka potential customers) identify and relate to your business than a video. Videos put a face to a name and allow an audience to see the genuine nature of your business and offerings.
While it may take time for your channel to be found, don’t give up. YouTube’s search engine optimization (SEO) is built around many things, such as the number of subscribers, number of views, video tags and other things that take time to develop. If you create the content people want to see, don’t worry: you’ll be found!
